INURED Announces Spring break 2013 Workshop!

INURED is pleased to announce that we will be holding a Spring Break 2013 Workshop titled, "An Introduction to Haiti: History, Culture and Political Economy."

This workshop is specifically designed as an introduction for foreigners employed or conducting research in Haiti. It is an interdisciplinary introduction to the history, culture and political economy of Haiti. It will include an interactive discussion on the sociocultural imagination of Haiti, highlighting its ambiguities and complexities. The workshop will draw on distinctive works on religion, language, space, social rituals, and institutions in Haiti and will assess their strengths and limitations. The emphasis on these questions will provide many examples of Haiti's symbolizing blackness in a world where race and racialization can be hinted at without having to cite them explicitly. Each session will culminate with discussion and reflection over traditional Haitian meals from various regions of the country.
